This custom bust service begins with an in-person 3D scan of the subject’s head and upper body. The scan is then processed, cleaned up, and prepared for 3D printing to create a detailed physical bust capturing the person’s facial features, hairstyle, clothing, and overall appearance.

The finished sculpture makes a unique display piece, keepsake, memorial, or personalized gift.

Local scanning is available within Western New York only.

Finished Size

Busts are generally produced at approximately 9 to 9.75 inches tall, depending on the proportions and geometry of the individual scan.

The printer has a maximum build volume of 256 × 256 × 256 mm, so each sculpture is scaled to make the best practical use of the available print area while preserving the proportions of the original subject.

Because every person and pose is different, exact height, width, depth, and weight will vary.

The example bust shown in the product photos is approximately 9.75 inches tall and weighs approximately 600 grams.

The finished sculpture is not life-size or 1:1 scale.

How It Works

• Place your order and provide your preferred contact information
• A scanning appointment will be arranged with you
• During the appointment, you will remain still while your head and upper body are captured with the 3D scanner
• The scan will be processed, repaired, and prepared for printing
• Your finished bust will then be 3D printed and prepared for delivery or pickup

The scanning process itself is relatively quick, although appointment length may vary depending on hair, clothing, movement, and the amount of additional scanning required.

Western New York Service Area

In-person scanning is currently available only within Western New York.

If travel to your location is requested, an additional travel charge may apply depending on the distance from the normal service area. Please select the appropriate travel option when ordering, if available.

If you are unsure which travel option applies to your location, include your city or ZIP code in the order notes and I will confirm the appropriate option before scheduling.

Travel outside Western New York is not currently offered.

Hair & Scanning Considerations

Optical 3D scanners can sometimes have difficulty capturing very dark, glossy, or reflective hair.

For certain hairstyles or hair colors, a temporary washable, light-colored hair spray or similar scanning aid may be recommended to help the scanner detect the shape and surface of the hair more accurately.

Any such product will only be applied with your permission before scanning and is intended to wash out afterward.

If you prefer not to use a temporary hair coating, the scan can still be attempted, but some areas of the hair may contain less detail or require additional digital cleanup.

Glasses, highly reflective jewelry, hats, and certain accessories may also need to be temporarily removed for the best scanning results.

Material

The bust will be produced in high-quality 3D printing filament. Material and color options may vary depending on the selections available when ordering.

Because this is a 3D printed sculpture, minor layer lines and small surface variations are normal and are part of the manufacturing process.

Every custom bust is created from an individual 3D scan, so the exact appearance, dimensions, weight, and level of fine detail will vary from person to person.

Hair, facial hair, clothing texture, movement during scanning, reflective surfaces, and other physical characteristics can affect scan quality.

The example photographs are intended to demonstrate the approximate size and type of finished sculpture. Your bust will be individually created from your own scan and will not be identical in geometry, dimensions, or weight to the example shown.
